Job summary
Overview:A registered nurse in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (shortened as Cardiac Cath Lab) assists cardiologists during the entire catheterization process. They prepare the patient before and after the procedure to stabilize their health status. The type of patients theyll work with have heart diseases or ailments that require constant monitoring.
Responsibilities:
Assesses, utilizing age specific data, the patients physical, psychosocial, and spiritual status in a comprehensive manner.
Performs initial assessment and completes required documentation within organizational standards.
Performs and documents ongoing assessments including observation, physical examination, laboratory/test results, and patient response to procedural intervention.
Participates in the identification and clarification of patient needs, as evidenced by participation in multidisciplinary care planning, to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Reviews and revises plan of care according to change in patients status.
Assists other staff in the delivery of patient care, as appropriate.
Incorporates patient teaching/discharge planning to promote optimal patient outcomes.
Coordinates and documents appropriate discharge planning and referrals to ensure continuity of care after discharge.
Qualifications:
Its recommended that candidates have work experience shadowing a Cardiologist or working in the Cardiac Cath Lab. This can be achieved through internship or clinical work.
Certification is especially important for this nursing position. Holding an active license in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is highly recommended.
