Job Summary and Qualifications
Demonstrates the ability to adapt technique/treatment to age of population served, including newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, while providing care/service with respect to cultural differences and spiritual needs
Coordinates and directs staff performing daily work activities to ensure the workload is processed in an efficient manner Performs the duties of the manager in his/her absence. This may include scheduling, directing and adjusting staff, performing time keeping, ordering supplies, result review and problem resolution to ensure continuity of operation
Performs the duties of a medical technologist, including performing high complexity lab tests, evaluation of test results, equipment operation, trouble shooting and communication of results
Helps maintain adequate staffing by staff assignment, staff adjustment and cross-training to ensure efficient operation
If assigned, serves as the Laboratory Point-of-Care Coordinator; this includes evaluation of requested point-of-care equipment and procedures, performing cost/benefit analysis, approving addition of point-of-care tests, maintaining the POC tracking grid, writing procedures, training personnel, reviewing results, reviewing and tracking quality control, quality controlling equipment or reagents, and working closely with nursing to ensure that all accreditation requirements for point-of-care testing are met
Provides technical direction and problem resolution regarding standard operating procedures and customer complaints to ensure accurate and timely results as well as customer satisfaction
Provides input into the selection, feedback, and counseling of employees, conducts orientation, training and competency evaluation to develop an efficient and effective workforce
Assists supervisor in maintaining an adequate inventory of necessary supplies to ensure continuous operation
Assists supervisor in maintaining employee time on duty and paid hours records on automated timekeeping system to ensure accuracy of compensation system
Participates in the improvement of operational functions of the department
Monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care and practices identifying opportunities for improvement through collaboration
Properly handling and processing hazardous chemicals and waste as needed
Performs all other duties as assigned.
What qualifications you will need:Required Registration, Licensure or Certification: Current certification as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists
Required Education or Experience: Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science, or medical technology.
