Job summary
Position Summary Provides complete and accurate floor and roof truss estimates to customers and sales staff by reviewing blueprints or gathering information directly from the customer or sales person, developing take-offs as necessary and designing and pricing trusses by utilizing a truss design software program (MiTek). Position Essential Duties and Responsibilities Create accurate floor and roof truss cost estimates in a timely matterCreate floor and roof truss layouts using design software (MiTek)Review blueprints, rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from plan designers to ensure correct truss estimatesModify and refine designs to conform to customer specifications, production limitations or building plan modifications.Interact with and advise sales staff on technical aspects of inquiries and consults with customers when more in-depth analysis is required.Analyze building codes, by-laws, space and site requirements, and other technical documents and reports to determine their effect on component designs made.Respond to incoming telephone calls for truss estimates on a frequent basisWilling to work with other estimators and designers to correctly achieve company goalPerform other duties and responsibilities as required and assigned. Education/Experience Minimum requirement high school degree or GED equivalent2- or 4-year college or trade school degree preferredOne (1) year in component design experience or equivalent preferredMiTek SAPPHIRE component software experience preferredBuilding industry knowledge preferred-truss design or truss fabrication Other Requirements Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screen Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of company products sufficient to look up/reference parts, products or component lists.Knowledge of company product pricing, discount and estimating formulas and guidelines.Knowledge of basic math and measurement skills.Knowledge of drafting, architectural design, or CAD applications,Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.Strong Organizational and Time Management and Detail OrientedExcellent Verbal and Written CommunicationUsing logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problemsConsider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate oneIdentifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutionsRead and understand blueprints and architectural drawingsAbility to execute plans/projects through othersCombine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated eventsWork independently while managing various tasks and prioritizing work responsibilities to meet deadlines.Can identify and qualify customer requirements for specific projects.Willing to obtain other training if deemed necessary in performance of responsibilities and continuing education Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Normal office conditions apply. Employee must have clear, close vision for reading and computer work. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, balance, stoop, grasp, talk, hear and operate computer keyboard. Job may require reaching at or above shoulder level and below waist. Will occasionally lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds.At times, jobsite or warehouse visits may be required, subject to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, increased noise levels and dust.
