The role
The Storage Engineering team at G-Research is expanding and on the lookout for an experienced DevOps Platform Engineer.
Our team manages high-performance storage platforms, including VAST and Isilon, which feed our multi-megawatt CPU and GPU farms.
We're seeking someone with hands-on experience in automation engineering and a knack for developing platform self-service solutions.
As a key member of our team you'll play a pivotal role in advancing automation, implementing feature enhancements, and applying best-practice security measures to our infrastructure.
Additionally, you'll be instrumental in exploring new technologies and integrating various Open Source products within our ecosystem.
At G-Research, there's a strong emphasis on configuration management, container orchestration, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD. This role offers a unique opportunity to delve into the latest hardware and software technologies on a massive scale.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
Designing, developing, and implementing robust automation solutions within the Storage ecosystem, aimed at optimizing operations and enhancing performance and efficiency
Troubleshooting and resolving complex issues in development, test, and production environments
Driving continuous improvement initiatives, actively identifying and targeting areas for enhancement and innovation across our platforms
Developing and implementing state-of-the-art automation engineering solutions that excel in stability, scalability, performance, and operational efficiency
Streamlining and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, facilitating automated processes for testing, deployment, configuration, and monitoring of both application and infrastructure changes
Who are we looking for?
The successful candidate will be an experienced DevOps Platform Engineer who is enthusiastic about contributing to an automated, scalable, reliable, and high performing storage platform.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
Experience in DevOps with a particular emphasis on automation, system optimization, and the development of self-service tools
Proven track record in the development, deployment, and maintenance of sophisticated automation systems
High proficiency in Python. Experience in other programming languages, notably Go and Bash, is beneficial
Expertise in tools for automation (for example, Jenkins and ArgoCD), configuration management (for example, Ansible and Terraform), and monitoring, logging, and alerting (for example, Prometheus and ELK).
Experience deploying and running applications on Docker and Kubernetes
Extensive knowledge of Linux and Networking
Comprehensive understanding of various cloud services and platforms, such as AWS, Azure, and GCP
Proficient in CI/CD practices, with substantial experience in building and refining pipelines
Competency in version control systems, such as Git, and automating code deployment processes
Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies, and integrating automation within these frameworks
Other Requirements:
Understanding of SRE concepts and their implementation in Platform Engineering
Prior knowledge of the importance of key concepts like IOPS, throughput, and latency on high performance storage systems
Familiarity with Distributed Storage such as Ozone and HDFS (HBase, TSDB)
