Job summary
Primary Duties & Responsibilities* Provides engineering support in the PM&O department, with an emphasis on specific manufacturing areas within the department.
* Utilizes problem solving methods to resolve process issues that negatively impact yields and productivity.
* Initiates process improvement projects that help continuously improve the department.
* Develops processes, work instructions and tooling for both current production needs and newly developed processes.
* Reviews and approves quotes, taking exceptions to the requested specifications when necessary, requiring a good understanding of the manufacturing capabilities of the department.
* Assists the workforce in performing at a high level of productivity, quality and efficiency.
Education & Experience
* Minimum 0-2 year experience in a preferably optics or other highly technical manufacturing environment.
* BS/MS in Optics or Engineering, or equivalent degree.
Skills
* Problem solving, fault isolation and analytical skills
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* High attention to detail and organizational skills
* Strong background in math and mechanics
* Optical/mechanical metrology capabilities
* Strong interpersonal, teaming, and problem-solving skills

Working Conditions
* The engineering office and most manufacturing and optical testing areas are clean working areas. Some manufacturing areas within the department can be noisy, dirty and require working with hazardous materials.
Physical Requirements
* At times, this job could require standing for the majority of the workday while working on the shop floor, learning processes and completing process development and improvement tasks. At times, lifting items weighing up to 20lbs may be necessary. Most of the time will be split between sitting at a desk working at a computer and moving throughout the department to speak to operators and work on projects.
Safety Requirements
* Some manufacturing areas may require PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as safety glasses, gloves and hearing protection. Typically, PPE will not be required with most aspects of this job.
* All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and II-VI Corporate EHS standards.
Quality and Environmental Responsibilities
* This position includes responsibilities of contributing to the departments documentation and keeping the department up to date and in compliance with the ISO standards. This includes work instructions, training documentation and process flow maps.
* Depending on location, this position may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
